Tượng
Phật vĩ đại, trên đảo Lantau, Hồng Kông.
Tượng Phật Tian Tan là một tượng bằng đồng lớn
của Đức Phật, tọa tại Ngưỡng Bi`nh, trên đảo
Lantau ở Hồng Kông. Cũng được biết như là một tượng
Phật vĩ đại, đó là một tượng Phật cao nhất
thế giới tọa lạc ngoài trời bằng đồng. Tượng
Phật được đặt tại một nơi gần tu viện Po Lin.
Là một biểu tượng cho sự hài hòa giữa con người
và thiên nhiên, loài người và tôn giáo. Đó là trung
tâm Phật giáo lớn tại Hồng Kông, và cũng là nơi
thu hút dân chúng đến tham quan.
Hi`nh dạng.
Tượng Phật thi` có tên là "Đức Phật Tian
Tan" bởi vi` được làm theo kiểu của Tian Tan, Chùa
của Thiên Đường tại Bắc Kinh. Đó là một trong năm
tượng Phật vĩ đại của Trung quốc. Tượng Phật vĩ
đại toạ trên ngai sen trên đỉnh của ba bục bệ
thờ. Được bao quanh bởi 8 tượng bằng đồng nhỏ
tượng trưng cho thiên thần hay là sự bất tử.
Tượng Phật cao 34 mét và nặng 250 tấn. Đây là tượng
Phật cao nhất thế giới, có thể nhi`n thấy từ
thật xa như tại Ma Cao trong ngày trời trong. Những du
khác phải trèo lên 268 bậc thềm để có thể lên
tới tượng Phật.
Tượng Phật Tian Tan hiện ra trong sáng và tôn qúy.
Tay phải của ngài thi` đưa lên, tượng trưng cho sự
xóa bỏ mọi ưu phiền. Tay trái của Ngài thi` nằm trên
đầu gối của Ngài, biểu thị cho loài người hạnh
phúc. Mặt tượng Phật quay về hướng bắc, đó là
tượng Phật duy nhất trong số những tướng Phật vĩ
đại (những tượng Phật khác quay về phía nam).
Cộng thêm ba tầng phía bên dưới của tượng Phật:
"Sảnh đường của vạn vật, sảnh đường của
giá trị ti`nh thương, sảnh đường của kỷ niệm (đền
kỷ niệm). Một cái mà đặc biệt nổi tiếng nhất
thi` bên trong có xá lợi của Ngài Sakyamuni, co`n lại
sau lễ hỏa táng. Có là một tấm chuông chạm khắc
thật lớn với những hi`nh tượng Đức Phật và
những bài giảng kinh trong phòng triển lãm. Nó được
sắp xếp cứ 7 phút thi` được đánh lên, 108 lần
trong một ngày, tượng trưng cho sự giải thoát 108
sự phiền lụy của chúng sanh.
Lịch sử.
Tượng Phật Tian Tan được xây vào năm 1990, và hoàn
tất ngày 29 tháng 12, 1993, sinh nhật của Ngài
Sakyamuni. Phí khoản để xây tượng Phật vĩ đại này
lên tới 68 triệu. Được làm từ 202 miếng đồng.
Cộng thêm cho bên ngoài là một sườn bằng thép
rất cứng ở phía trong của tượng Phật để chống
đỡ cho sức nặng và sự ép của gió.
Khi tượng Phật được hoàn tất, những vị Tăng sĩ
ở trên thế giới đã được mời đến dự lễ khai
mở. Đặc biệt đáng chú y' là những du khách đến
từ Trung Hoa cũng như từ Đài Loan, Nhật Bản, Thái
Lan, Đại Hàn, Mã Lai, Singapore, Tích Lan, và Hoa Ky`,
tất cả có phần trong sự xây dựng này.
Vào ngày 18 tháng 10, 1999, bưu điện Hồng Kông đã phát
hành một loại tem miêu tả hi`nh tượng Phật Tian
Tan. Công ty MTR cũng đã phát hành vé kỷ niệm đặc
biệt có hi`nh đức Phật.

The Tian Tan Buddha (天壇大佛) is
a large bronze
statue of the Buddha,
located at Ngong Ping, Lantau
Island, in Hong
Kong. Also known as the
Giant Buddha, it is the world's tallest outdoor seated bronze
Buddha. The statue is located near the Po
Lin Monastery. It
symbolizes the harmonious relationship between man and nature,
people and religion. It is a major center of Buddhism
in Hong Kong, and is also a popular sightseeing attraction.
Description
The statue is named 'Tian Tan Buddha' because its base is a
model of Tian
Tan, the Temple of
Heaven in Beijing.
It is one of the five large Buddha statues in China. The Giant
Buddha statue sits peacefully on a lotus
throne on top of a three-platform altar. It is surrounded by
eight smaller bronze statues representing gods or immortals.
The Buddha is 34 meters high and weighs 250 tons. This, the
world's tallest Buddha, can even be seen as far away as Macau
on a clear day. Visitors have to climb 268 steps in order to
reach the Buddha.
The Tian Tan Buddha appears serene and dignified. His right hand
is raised, representing the removal of affliction. His left hand
lies on his knee, signifying human happiness. The Buddha faces
north, which is unique among the great Buddha statues. (All
others face South.)
In addition there are 3 floors at the bottom of Buddha: 'The
Hall of Universe', 'The Hall of Benevolent Merit' and 'The Hall
of Remembrance'. One of the most renowned features inside is a relic
of Sakyamuni, consisting of some of his alleged cremated
remains. There is a huge carved bell inscribed with images of
Buddhas and lections in the show room. It was designed to ring
every seven minutes, 108 time a day, symbolizing the release of
108 kinds of human vexations.
History
The Tian Tan Buddha was constructed beginning in 1990,
and was finished on December
29, 1993,
the birthday of Sakyamuni.
The construction costs of the giant Buddha were estimated to be
up to $68 million. It was formed out of 202 separate pieces of bronze.
In addition to the exterior components, there is a strong steel
framework inside the statue to support the heavy load and wind
pressure.
When the statue was completed, monks from around the world were
invited to the opening ceremony. Distinguished visitors from all
of China,
as well as Taiwan,
Japan,
Thailand,
Korea,
Malaysia,
Singapore,
Sri
Lanka, and the United
States all took part in
the proceedings.
On October
18, 1999
the Hong
Kong Post Office issued
a stamp depicting the Tian Tan Buddha. The MTR
corporation has also issued a tourist souvenir ticket featuring
a photograph of the statue.
